Forty-five people were evacuated after a fire broke out at a north London hospital.

London Fire Brigade said 58 firefighters tackled the blaze at Chase Farm Hospital, Enfield, where part of a two-storey building was alight.

Eight engines were called to the hospital at 22:11 BST and the fire was brought under control by 00:41, the brigade said.

Seven people were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.

Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust said two of those were members of its staff, who were taken to hospital.

Fourteen patients had been moved to alternative accommodation for the night at the hospital at The Ridgeway because their ward was damaged, the trust added.

The fire service said the secure mental health unit was evacuated took place before its crews arrived.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
